Job summary

Submittable is hiring a Vice President of Engineering to lead a small, senior team, stay hands-on, and ship with AI. You will report to the CTO, drive delivery, quality, reliability, and cost while keeping the organization lean and technically deep.

You’ll work with AI agents, review code, and balance architecture decisions with business goals. This role demands strong engineering leadership and a track record of multi-tenant SaaS success.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/Engineering or related field.
• 15+ years in software engineering with depth in distributed systems and cloud infrastructure.
• 7+ years in engineering leadership including managing other managers.
• Experience building multi-tenant B2B SaaS at scale.

Responsibilities

• Run engineering day to day: translate CTO strategy and product roadmap into plans and shipped software.
• Remain hands-on: review PRs, prototype, debug production issues, and build tooling.
• Make AI the default approach: enable engineers to work with AI coding agents for design, coding, testing, and review.
• Measure AI impact: track DORA metrics, defects, and cost per release; report on improvements and problems.
• Keep the organization lean: minimize headcount growth and maintain technical leadership.
• Automate toil: use AI and automation for test generation, CI/CD checks, release notes, and incident triage.
• Raise the technical bar: set standards for architecture, testing, CI/CD, and observability.
• Own platform reliability, security, and cost: manage multi-tenant SaaS on AWS/Azure with Kubernetes and SOC 2 compliance.
• Build AI into the product: collaborate with CTO/Product to add AI features that improve funding decisions and applicant review.
• Hire and grow a small, strong team: coach managers, create career paths, emphasize technical depth.
• Partner across the company: align with Product/Design and Support to balance scope, debt, and platform health.
