Job summary

VCA is seeking a Clinical Pathologist to diagnose disease and death in companion and laboratory animals by examining tissues, fluids, and hematologic specimens. Target pay range is $130,000-$160,000 per year and the role offers remote work with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities include describing cytologic preparations, preparing narrative reports, and consulting with veterinarians via Skype/email. Requires DVM/VMD, ACVP Diplomate, and state license.

Qualifications

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) degree or equivalent.
• Diploma of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists.
• License to practice veterinary medicine in the relevant state.

Responsibilities

• Describe and interpret cytologic preparations from FNA, body fluids, and hematologic specimens.
• Prepare pathology narrative reports of cytologic, hematologic, and clinical pathology data.
• Dictate medical evaluations using Dragon and other dictating software.
• Consult with veterinarians about diseases detected in samples via Skype, phone, and email.
• Participate in pathology rounds bi‑weekly.
• Describe and interpret histopathologic findings from bone marrow core biopsies.
• Provide medical second opinions as requested by clients or colleagues.
• Describe and interpret reports for research samples in animals.
