Job summary

Northern Star Resources Limited is seeking an underground Communications Technician for our Pogo operation in Alaska. You will install, maintain and fault-find the communications infrastructure across underground and surface areas, reporting to the Electrical Supervisor on a 3 weeks on/3 weeks off rotating schedule.

The role requires at least 3 years in mining and hands-on experience with two-way radio systems, SCADA, RF links and fiber networks.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years relevant experience in the mining industry.
• Experience in: 2-way radio troubleshooting and programming, Vehicle proximity, Citect Scada, Schneider Control, satellite television/digital systems, digital radio, VHF/UHF leaky feeder systems, IP Network planning and configuration, Microwave and/or satellite communications links, Troubleshooting complex electronic circuits, Wattmeters, Spectrum Analyzers, Vector Network Analyzers, OTDRs, Fusion Splicers, Oscilloscopes and Multimeters, Terminating, Cat5, RJ11, Coax, Fiber (Fuse on Connectors) and D-Shell Connectors.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain and fault-find communications infrastructure.
• Support continuous improvement projects in Mining.
• Assist commissioning and startup of new installations.
• Mentor junior personnel in the department.
• Implement minor software/hardware/interface changes.
• Work with supervisors and vendors to resolve complex comms problems.
• Develop procedures for systems within your area of responsibility.
• Ensure reporting meets Company standards and is on time.
• Carry out planned weekly/monthly maintenance.
• Operate Integrated Tool Carrier/Front End Loader.
