Job summary

Canonical is seeking an Ubuntu Core Software Engineer to redefine the Linux experience in embedded environments for IoT. You will work on boot mechanisms, bootloaders, device trees, kernels, and services across ARM/RISC-V/X86. Remote in the EMEA region with global collaboration and travel.

You will design secure embedded Linux solutions, contribute to code with unit tests, and partner with a distributed team to solve complex challenges in security and reliability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM or similar degree.
• Experience with C or Golang, and Shell.
• Solid understanding of Linux and a modern GNU/Linux distribution (Debian/Ubuntu preferred).
• Experience with Linux-capable devices such as Raspberry Pi.
• Interest in learning or experience in low-level systems and security facilities such as bootloaders, systemd/udev/initrd, OS-level firmware daemons.

Responsibilities

• Write high quality code with unit tests to create new features.
• Debug Linux system level issues and produce high quality code to fix them.
• Collaborate with a distributed team and review code from others.
• Integrate diverse bootloaders and maintain gadget snaps.
• Travel 2–4 times per year for internal/external events.
