Job summary

Canonical is seeking a Software Engineer specializing in cryptography to build and maintain the security foundation for Ubuntu. The role involves collaborating with the Security Hardening team to secure certifications while enhancing cryptographic components for compliance with international standards.

The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in software engineering, hands-on experience with Linux security, and the ability to work effectively in a remote-first environment.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with low-level Linux cryptography APIs.
• Excellent software engineering fundamentals and C development experience.
• Experience in Linux system administration and shell scripting.
• Knowledge of security and cryptography fundamentals with experience in writing secure code.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with engineers in the Security Hardening team to achieve security certifications.
• Enhance Linux cryptographic components for FIPS and CC certification.
• Work with external partners to develop security hardening benchmarks.
• Contribute to Ubuntu mainline and upstream projects.
