Job summary

The PATHS program at the University of Utah seeks mentors to serve as trusted advisors for high school students, focusing on college readiness and personal growth. This part-time, work-study role offers meaningful mentoring, weekly check-ins, and occasional off-site events that support student success.

Mentors will create enriching experiences, help with time management and study skills, share guidance on college applications, and collaborate with a team to promote access to higher education.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma, or equivalency; demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are required.
• The incumbent will be required to pass a Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) Background check.
• Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Responsibilities

• Communicate with student cohorts weekly and keep up-to-date about student progress.
• Work with fellow mentors to plan and supervise monthly Saturday engagement events (September – May)
• Update student resource guides and occasionally give short presentations on college readiness, life skills, scholarships, and more.
• Meet virtually with students to track student progress and data.
• Attend mandatory weekly team meetings.
• Conduct themselves professionally and be positive role models to students.
