Job summary

The PATHS program at the University of Utah is a cohort-based pre-college initiative designed to help high school students, especially first-generation or low-income learners, achieve academic success and college readiness. It runs year-round from the summer before high school and provides access to university resources and a learning community to prepare students for higher education.

Mentors create supportive experiences, help with academics and time management, and share guidance on college

Qualifications

• High School Diploma, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience)
• Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are required.
• The incumbent will be required to pass a Bureau of Criminal Investigation ( BCI ) Background check

Responsibilities

• Communicate with student cohorts weekly and keep up-to-date about student progress.
• Work with fellow mentors to plan and supervise monthly Saturday engagement events (September – May)
• Update student resource guides and occasionally give short presentations on various topics related to college readiness, life skills, self-management, scholarships, and more.
• Meet virtually with students to track student progress and data.
• Attend mandatory weekly team meetings.
• Conduct themselves professionally and be positive role models to students.

Work Schedule Summary 20 hours per week, 90% remote and 10% in-person. Mentors are required to work one Saturday a month during program field trips to supervise and facilitate activities with program participants.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are required.

• Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Preferences

• Commit to the program for fall and spring semester.
• Have at least 1 year of experience in a college-setting.
• Have an interest in positive youth development and/or youth mentoring.
• Have reliable transportation and be willing to transport students in University vehicles if necessary.
• Majors in education, social work, psychology, sociology, or other related fields.
