Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a part-time Triage RN, Access to provide clinically expert virtual triage services. The nurse will act as a liaison between patients and physicians, assessing presenting problems and guiding next steps using evidence-based protocols.

Responsibilities include triaging calls/messages, documenting in the EMR, scheduling visits, and collaborating with providers and staff to ensure patient-first care.

Qualifications

• Graduate of accredited RN program.
• 2 years of ambulatory care experience.
• Registered Nurse license issued by State of Illinois.
• Current AHA BLS Provider certification.

Responsibilities

• Triage all incoming calls and electronic messages with provider involvement as needed.
• Demonstrate excellent customer service and communication within a team.
• Establish positive first impressions and advocate for patients.
• Develop and update an individualized plan of care using triage protocols.
• Ask key questions to assess clinical condition and adjust approach accordingly.
• Document all communications in the electronic medical record.
• Schedule patient visits with providers based on protocols.
• Follow department triage protocols and guidelines.
• Assist in scheduling appointments and orient new staff.
• Participate in process improvement and departmental quality activities.
• Utilize service recovery skills to resolve issues.
