Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Technical Lead, Grid Modernization to guide control system architecture, requirements, and testing across US projects in energy and infrastructure. You will lead multidisciplinary teams, define interfaces, and ensure reliable power system operation for clients and project teams.

The role emphasizes collaboration with suppliers, integrators, and engineers, with a focus on standards, safety, and regulatory compliance. Remote work within the United States is supported.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Controls/Automation Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years in utility/power/control systems or equivalent.
• Proven technical leadership on complex multidisciplinary projects.
• Expertise with EMS, ADMS, DERMS, SCADA, DCS, PLC/RTU systems.
• Experience with testing, commissioning, and reliability-focused design.
• Strong communication, leadership, and client engagement skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of control philosophies, system architectures, interfaces, and acceptance criteria.
• Define operating modes, hierarchies, setpoints and system boundaries with clients.
• Provide technical oversight throughout project execution and resolve design challenges.
• Coordinate with electrical, communications, OT cybersecurity, and power teams for alignment.
• Establish standards and best practices to ensure consistent delivery.
• Coordinate interfaces between generation facilities, BESS, UPS, microgrid controllers, and plant systems.
• Define communication requirements, alarm strategies, and time synchronization methods.
• Support grid-connected and islanded operation strategies and restoration procedures.
• Review vendor designs and manage integration activities.
• Develop FAT, SAT, and integrated system testing plans; support commissioning and project closeout.
• Provide workload forecasts and progress updates, and manage budgets and delivery constraints.
• Apply safety, quality, cybersecurity, and regulatory requirements throughout.
