Job summary

JTG is seeking highly qualified Target Language Specialists to source, transcribe, and translate authentic materials into English. This remote, independent contractor role offers flexible hours and a focus on low-resource languages and dialects.

Workload is approximately 10-20 hours per week, May–October 2026 with possible extensions. Contractors must disclose conflicts of interest, sign an NDA, and adhere to data security guidelines.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years in a language-related field (translation, transcription, teaching, linguistics, or corpus development).
• ILR level 3+ in target language (reading/listening) and ILR 3+ in English.
• Ability to work with authentic written and/or spoken materials.
• Experience using standard digital tools (Office, audio tools, online research).

Responsibilities

• Source and select authentic written and spoken materials in the target language.
• Transcribe speech-derived content (audio, broadcasts, interviews).
• Provide accurate English translations of target-language materials.
• Review translations for accuracy, consistency, and clarity.
• Adhere to project standards, specifications, and timelines.
• Maintain clear documentation of sources and decisions.
