Job summary

ABB is seeking a Protection & Control Engineer for a full-remote role with preference for Northern California. You will lead engineering activities for substation protection & control systems, develop schematics and BOMs, and manage project delivery while ensuring safety and standards compliance.

The role requires a PE license in California, 5+ years of relevant experience, and ability to work from the US with ABB. Strong communication and cross‑functional collaboration are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
• 5+ years of experience in protection & control projects for utility customers.
• Ability to read, interpret, and apply electrical one-lines, schematics, and instruction manuals.
• Proficient software experience should include Easy Power, SKM Powertools, ETAP, Aspen, and EMTP.
• PE License in California is required.
• Candidates must have work authorization to work for ABB in the US.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support engineering design activities for protection & control/automation systems in utilities, industrial, and commercial substations.
• Develop engineering documentation and analyses to support accurate, standards‑compliant designs.
• Manage project materials, design packages, and technical issue resolution with communication to teams and customers.
• Ensure safety practices and standards while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and participating in training.
