Job summary

Neumo Holdings LLC is seeking a Staff Engineer to serve as the senior-most technical contributor for our Records and Tax platforms. You will own the architectural direction, set standards, and drive modernization while keeping large systems reliable and secure.

This remote role reports to the VP of Engineering, requires exceptional written communication, and the ability to influence engineering across distributed teams without direct reports.

Qualifications

• 12+ years in producing and running production software, with senior/leadership experience.
• Proven ownership of large, multi-team architectures and long-term stability.
• Strong background in distributed systems, data modeling, and scalable relational databases.
• track record of establishing engineering standards that teams actually adopt.
• Hands-on depth in resiliency, performance, SLOs, capacity planning, and incident response.
• Exceptional written communication and ability to influence without direct authority.

Responsibilities

• Own the target architecture for the Records and Tax platforms, including service boundaries and data models.
• Lead design reviews and set the bar for architecture documentation and decisions.
• Drive multi-quarter modernization work, decomposing legacy components and sequencing migrations.
• Make and document build/buy/refactor decisions, including trade-offs rejected.
• Define and evolve engineering standards across platforms: code quality, testing, API design, observability, deployment, docs.
• Lead incident response and post-incident reviews, ensuring durable fixes.
