Job summary

Zip Co Limited is seeking a highly experienced Staff Engineer to lead the real-time money movement and payments platform. You will guide cross-team technical direction, embed AI into engineering workflows, and raise the bar for reliability and scalability across the organization.

This hands-on leadership role requires mentoring senior engineers, defining platform patterns, and driving AI adoption to improve developer velocity and code quality across teams.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of experience building and operating distributed backend systems.
• Experience in payments, fintech, or other correctness-critical domains.
• Proven track record applying AI to improve engineering outcomes at scale.
• Experience leading complex cross-team initiatives and setting technical direction.
• Deep expertise in event-driven architectures, microservices, and high-availability systems.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction and architect cross-domain initiatives across the platform.
• Define AI-assisted engineering patterns and standardize adoption across teams.
• Mentor senior engineers and raise engineering standards across groups.
• Collaborate with platform and tooling teams to integrate AI into developer tools.
• Drive improvements in developer productivity, system quality, and delivery speed.
• Partner with engineering and product leaders to shape strategy and execution.
• Maintain focus on reliability, performance, and security in financial systems.
