Job summary

On Call Counsel seeks contract hearing representatives to support New York City's special education claims program. You will manage a high-volume caseload, prepare for and litigate in administrative hearings, and collaborate with education specialists and attorneys to advance resolutions.

Responsibilities include navigating federal and state education laws, drafting filings, and negotiating settlements with parents and opposing counsel.

Qualifications

• Active bar license in good standing in any U.S. state.
• Minimum of 1+ years of recent litigation experience.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and able to troubleshoot basic tech issues.
• Ability to log activities in 15-minute increments.

Responsibilities

• Case Management: Manage a high-volume caseload of 100–200 claims.
• Representation: Prepare for and/or litigate complex cases in administrative hearings and negotiations.
• Administrative Process: Navigate federal and state education laws and regulations.
• Documentation: Prepare and review filings, agreements, and reports.
• Settlement Negotiation: Negotiate resolutions and attorney’s fees with parents and opponents.
• Training and Collaboration: Work with specialists and staff; provide training on compliance with education laws.
• Research and Compliance: Analyze case law and advise on compliance obligations under hearing orders.
