Job summary

Renew Home is seeking a Staff Engineer to lead AI-assisted development, defining how engineers interact with AI tools and ensuring safe adoption. You will mentor engineers, own the inner loop of software delivery, and drive durable improvements across TypeScript/Node and Python codebases.

You will work within application development teams, prioritizing feedback, earning trust, and delivering measurable improvements that boost productivity and quality in a fully remote environment.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of software engineering experience with focus on developer tooling, platform engineering, or developer productivity.
• Deep familiarity with TypeScript/Node and Python ecosystems with packaging and build tooling knowledge.
• Experience with monorepo tooling (Nx or similar) and scaling codebases for speed.
• Hands-on experience designing and configuring devcontainer-based development environments.
• Experience evaluating and integrating AI development tools (GitHub Copilot, Claude, OpenAI, Cursor, Codex) with governance in mind.
• Strong listening, communication, and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the evolution of the AI Developer Experience across the software lifecycle.
• Drive evaluation, adoption and governance of AI development tooling with practical and secure rollout.
• Improve speed of common developer actions across TypeScript/Node and Python codebases.
• Own devcontainer strategy for local and cloud-based environments to scale across projects.
• Maintain and improve local testing frameworks and developer-facing test infra.
• Evolve internal libraries, configurations, and documentation for easy adoption.
• Contribute to CI/CD, SDLC definitions, language/library upgrade cycles, onboarding and observability.
