Job summary

The Salvation Army Indiana Division is seeking a Staff Accountant to manage all accounting functions for assigned Corps or Unit(s) and to assist with other accounting and finance projects as needed.

The position requires an Accounting degree and experience with AP/AR and bank reconciliations in a not-for-profit setting; GAAP proficiency and strong communication are essential. Microsoft Office skills and organizational abilities are important for success.

Qualifications

• Accounting degree required; a four-year degree in accounting preferred.
• Background checks required for the position.
• One year experience processing accounts payable, receivables, and bank reconciliations; not-for-profit accounting a plus.

Responsibilities

• Prepare accounting transactions to maintain the general ledger, including journal entries, accounts payable, receivables, billing, and monthly reconciliations.
• Review payables/receivables and assist accounting clerks with information to perform duties.
• Prepare monthly general ledger reconciliations, cash flows, and financial statements; assist with ad hoc reports.
• Assist in monitoring Corps or Unit cash balances and provide cash balance reports to Officers.
• Prepare bank reconciliations and review reconciliations for other Corps or Unit(s).
• Assist Officers in budget preparation and enter approved budgets into the accounting system.
• Prepare pro forma 990 Returns of Organization Exempt From Tax as needed.
• Provide information for grant applications and monitor receipt of funds for compliance.
• Prepare work papers and schedules for auditors and assist with audit questions.
• Provide back up to other staff accountants when needed.
