Job summary

The Salvation Army is seeking a Staff Accountant in Indiana to handle all accounting functions for assigned Corps or Units and assist with special projects. The role supports general ledger activities, reconciliations, budgeting, and audit preparation within a not-for-profit environment.

Education: Accounting degree required; one year of AP/AR/bank reconciliation experience; GAAP proficiency and strong communication skills are essential. Some weekend/evening work may be required.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of GAAP.
• Proficiency with PC and Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Prepare accounting transactions to maintain the general ledger, including journal entries, AR, AP, billing and reconciliations.
• Ensure proper classification, coding and functionalization of transactions.
• Review payable and receivable transactions and assist accounting staff as needed.
• Prepare monthly general ledger reconciliations, monthly and annual financial statements, cash flows and ad hoc reports.
• Monitor cash balances and provide cash reports to Officers.
• Prepare bank reconciliations and review reconciliations for other units.
• Assist in budget preparation and enter approved budgets into the system.
• Prepare pro forma 990 return of EO Tax as needed.
• Provide information for grant applications and monitor fund receipts to ensure compliance.
• Prepare work papers for auditors and assist with responses.
• Provide backup to other staff accountants when needed.
