Job summary

The Salvation Army in Chicago is seeking a Staff Accountant to support daily financial operations within the General Fund Finance team. The role emphasizes reconciliation, analysis and reporting to assist department managers in decision making and to ensure accurate financial results for the division.

Responsibilities include GL account reconciliation, data maintenance, vendor invoicing, accounts receivable monitoring, and backup support for AP and receipting.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of college education with an accounting focus and a preferred bachelor’s degree.
• At least 2-3 years accounting experience with general ledger, financial analysis and reconciliations.
• Experience with computerized accounting systems and Excel spreadsheets.
• Nonprofit or faith-based organization experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review, analyze and reconcile general ledger accounts (Fixed Assets, Prepaid Expenses, etc.).
• Prepare distribution spreadsheets and review vendor invoices for proper cost allocation.
• Monitor accounts receivable aging and initiate collection efforts as needed.
• Backup General Fund AP and Receipting; assist with internal audits and vendor inquiries.
• Assist with annual budgets, grant contracts, and preparing supporting work papers.
