Job summary

The Salvation Army in Chicago is seeking a Staff Accountant to support the General Fund operations. You will perform reconciliations, financial analysis, and reporting to assist department managers with daily financial decisions.

Responsibilities include reviewing GL activity, managing grant contracts, maintaining data, and supporting audits. Prior nonprofit experience is valued. This is an hourly role with a focus on accuracy and timeliness.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of college education with an accounting focus (Bachelor's degree in accounting).
• At least 2-3 years accounting experience, with a background in general ledger, financial analysis and account reconciliations.
• Experience with computerized accounting systems and Excel spreadsheets.
• Experience in a nonprofit or faith-based organization is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Reconciliation / Analysis Activities: review, analyze and reconcile general ledger accounts and resolve reconciling items.
• Reconcile assets and depreciation, prepaid expenses, reserves, loans, and deferred revenues.
• Review monthly statements from HQ and Trade Central to ensure accuracy and avoid overpayments.
• Prepare distribution spreadsheets and check requests for expenses and billable items.
• Monitor accounts receivable aging and initiate collection efforts as needed.
• Backup the Finance Data Manager for Officer Allowance Report information.
