Job summary

Cognizant is seeking an experienced SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) to join our enterprise infrastructure team in a remote USA role. You will manage, optimize, and secure mission-critical Microsoft SQL Server environments, driving modernization and HA/DR strategies.

The role requires deep SQL Server expertise, cloud-based services, automation, and collaboration with development and security teams to ensure high availability and performance across large-scale production systems.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of SQL Server DBA experience.
• Experience with HA/DR technologies (Always On, Clustering, Replication, Mirroring, Log Shipping).
• Performance tuning and query optimization experience.
• Backup and recovery administration expertise.
• T-SQL development and troubleshooting.
• Production support experience.
• Windows Server administration experience.

Responsibilities

• Administer, maintain, patch, upgrade, and optimize Microsoft SQL Server environments across production, development, test, and disaster recovery platforms.
• Monitor database health, performance, availability, and capacity; tune queries and indexes.
• Troubleshoot complex database issues including bottlenecks, blocking, and outages.
• Design and support HA/DR solutions (Always On, Clustering, Replication, Mirroring, Log Shipping).
• Develop and maintain backup, recovery, business continuity strategies.
• Support application teams by optimizing T-SQL code, procedures, views, and functions.
• Participate in migrations, upgrades, and modernization projects for scalability and performance.
• Automate routine tasks with SQL Server Agent and PowerShell.
