Job summary

Cognizant is seeking an experienced SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) to join our enterprise infrastructure team. The role focuses on administration, HA/DR, performance tuning, and modernization of Microsoft SQL Server environments, including cloud-based services.

The successful candidate will support large-scale production systems, collaborate with development and security teams, and drive data availability, security, and operational excellence across on-premises and Azure SQL platforms.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of SQL Server Database Administration experience.
• Strong knowledge of HA/DR technologies and SQL Server performance tuning.
• Expertise in backup/recovery, T-SQL development, and production support.
• Experience with Windows Server and cloud-based SQL Server services.

Responsibilities

• Administer, maintain, patch, upgrade, and optimize SQL Server environments.
• Monitor health, performance, availability, and capacity; tune queries and indexes.
• Troubleshoot complex issues including bottlenecks, blocking, and outages.
• Design and support HA/DR solutions (Always On, Clustering, Replication, Log Shipping).
• Develop backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
• Support development teams with T-SQL, stored procedures, views, and triggers.
• Automate DBA tasks with PowerShell and automation tools.
• Maintain monitoring, runbooks, and documentation; support Azure databases.
• Collaborate with security, cloud, and infrastructure teams; participate in on-call.
