Job summary

Upstart is hiring a Software Engineer II in the Developer Platform team to build and operate systems used by engineers across Upstart to develop, test, and prepare software for production. You’ll work on CI infrastructure, Kubernetes-based ephemeral environments, test infrastructure, and developer tooling while delivering well-scoped engineering projects and contributing to technical design.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field (or its equivalent).
• Experience developing production software using one or more general-purpose programming languages.
• Experience designing, building, testing, and operating production software or infrastructure.
• Experience working with cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, CI systems, developer tooling, or backend services.
• Experience independently delivering well-scoped software engineering projects from technical design through production operation.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate CI infrastructure, Kubernetes-based environments, test infrastructure, and developer tooling.
• Develop scalable Kubernetes- and AWS-based capabilities for production-like environments.
• Create shared infrastructure for test execution, orchestration, and environment setup to provide fast feedback.
• Improve platform reliability, performance, observability, and cost efficiency.
