Job summary

Upstart is hiring a Software Engineer II, Delivery to build and operate systems used to release and deploy software to production. You will independently drive well‑defined engineering projects, contribute to designs, and improve reliability of deployment pipelines.

You will enable progressive rollouts, automated rollback, and enhanced visibility into releases while advancing AI‑assisted development across the lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field (or its equivalent), plus 3 years of professional software engineering experience
• Experience developing production software using one or more general‑purpose programming languages
• Experience designing, building, testing, and operating production software or infrastructure
• Experience working with cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, deployment systems, developer tooling, or backend services
• Experience independently delivering well‑scoped software engineering projects from technical design through production operation
• Demonstrated experience using AI assisted development tools across multiple stages of the software engineering lifecycle, with an interest in continually evolving how you use these tools as their capabilities advance

Responsibilities

• Build and operate the systems engineers use to release and deploy software to production
• Independently deliver well‑scoped engineering projects, contribute to technical design, and improve reliability and usability of delivery systems
• Develop deployment capabilities with progressive rollouts, health analysis, and automated rollback
• Increase visibility into releases, deployments, configuration, and production state
• Increase reliability, performance, observability, and usability of Delivery systems
• Replace manual release workflows with reusable, self‑service capabilities
• Use AI to enable automation in software development and problem solving
