Job summary

RK&K is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to plan, design, and deliver transportation projects across the firm. You will work with engineers and PMs on diverse delivery types including Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build, and P3.

The role involves preparing roadway designs using ORD, contributing to reports and modeling, and mentoring junior staff. Hybrid work in Fairfax, VA is preferred, with remote options possible.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• 8+ years of experience in transportation infrastructure design.
• Active PE license in VA or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Proficient with OpenRoads Designer (ORD) for roadway design and modeling.
• Highly organized and detail oriented.
• Strong verbal and written communication; able to work with dispersed teams.
• Familiarity with DOT standards; experience with multiple state DOTs is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead or support technical design on transportation projects (highways, interchanges, tollways, transit corridors).
• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams across offices to develop design solutions.
• Serve as a liaison between internal teams, clients, contractors, and stakeholders.
• Develop and review plans, specs, cost estimates, and design reports using ORD.
• Participate in proposal development, design-build pursuits, and technical presentations.
• Mentor junior engineers and support career development within the project team.
• Ensure quality control and compliance with standards and client requirements.
• Stay informed about industry trends and alternative delivery methods.
