Job summary

VetsEZ seeks a Team Lead / Senior Systems Engineer to guide a systems engineering team supporting VA enterprise IT operations. You will design Windows Server infrastructure, lead protections with STIGs, manage backups with Commvault, and coordinate cross-functional work with developers and VA stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS, electronics engineering, or another technical discipline; 8 years may substitute.
• 5+ years of experience.
• Experience administering and engineering Windows Server environments in large-scale/enterprise settings.
• Experience leading technical teams, including assigning work and reviewing output.
• Designing and engineering enterprise Windows infrastructure with high availability, clustering, and SAN storage.
• Hands-on with Active Directory, GPOs, Windows clustering, sFTP, and SAN storage.
• Proficiency in patch management, system hardening, and federal security compliance.
• Experience with Hyper-V and VMM.
• Familiarity with backup and monitoring tools like Commvault, SolarWinds, or SCOM.
• Strong scripting (PowerShell) and documentation skills, with ability to set standards.
• Strong leadership and communication for technical and non-technical audiences.
• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain Public Trust clearance.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of system administrators and engineers, setting priorities and tracking progress.
• Serve as technical point of contact with program leadership, developers, and VA stakeholders.
• Design, engineer, and maintain Windows Server infrastructure across environments.
• Oversee enterprise services (AD, DNS, DHCP, SMB, RDP, GPOs) and establish configuration standards.
• Design and maintain high-availability solutions including HA clusters and SAN storage.
• Oversee virtual (Hyper-V) and physical platforms (HP ProLiant) and firmware updates.
• Lead STIGs implementation, vulnerability remediation, and secure remote access configurations.
• Own enterprise backup strategy using Commvault, including testing and restoration.
• Direct system monitoring with SCOM, SolarWinds, or equivalents; act as senior escalation point.
• Plan deployments of enterprise tools (Visual Studio, Power BI, SQL Server, etc.).
• Lead change management, risk assessment, and rollback planning for system changes.
• Establish PowerShell automation standards and review AI-assisted scripts.
• Ensure documentation, runbooks, and topology diagrams are up-to-date for audits.
• Mentor team members and support onboarding and staffing discussions.
