Job summary

Orbital Engineering, Inc. seeks a Senior Substation Physical Engineer to lead physical design for US substation projects up to 500 kV, including grounding, layouts and protection concepts. This remote position requires strong leadership and client interaction, with mentoring of junior engineers.

You will oversee engineering deliverables, coordinate across disciplines, support business development, and ensure compliance with NEC/NESC/IEEE standards while elevating our design capabilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with equivalent experience
• Senior Engineer I 7+ years related experience
• Senior Engineer II 10+ years related experience
• Senior Engineer III 15+ years related experience & PE required
• Professional Engineer registration strongly preferred
• Proficiency with NESC, IEEE, and other relevant codes and standards
• Ability to lead staff and manage multiple complex assignments
• Experience in creating and reviewing substation design drawings

Responsibilities

• Lead projects or act as independent reviewer for assigned projects
• Provide technical support for clients and assist regional business development
• Mentor teams of engineers and designers
• Develop engineering deliverables for electric substation projects
• Coordinate design activities with other disciplines and groups
• Lead in project planning, execution and updates
• Manage field walkdowns, constructability reviews and site support
