Job summary

Orbital Engineering, Inc. seeks a Senior Substation Protection & Controls Engineer to provide technical direction for the Substation Design Team on projects up to 500 kV. This REMOTE role requires strong engineering and client-relations skills, with PE preferred.

Responsibilities include applying NEC/NESC/IEEE standards, performing protection and control design, and preparing drawings, schematics, and calculations. Travel may be required for client work and project kickoff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college or university.
• Minimum 7 years’ experience in protection and control design.
• Professional Engineer (PE) License is required.
• High voltage project experience up to 500 kV; CAD software proficiency (AutoCAD, MicroStation).
• Ability to work with remotely located team members and manage multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

• Apply NEC, NESC, NEMA, ANSI, IEEE standards to complete engineering designs.
• Provide technical support for client initiatives under supervision.
• Collaborate in a project team with engineers and designers for detailed electrical design and project management.
• Prepare design packages: single lines, AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, and SCADA lists.
• Perform substation calculations and review design drawings for quality and accuracy.
• Support pre-bid walkdowns, proposals, and project estimates.
