Job summary

Forterra is seeking a Senior Software Safety Engineer to advance safety-critical autonomous ground-based systems. You will lead hazard analyses, shape safety concepts, and ensure rigorous development aligned with MIL-STD-882E and ASPICE.

Work with cross-functional teams to craft safety requirements, architecture, and validation plans, supporting risk mitigation and verification across the software stack.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Software, Systems or related Engineering discipline; Master's preferred.
• 5–10+ years of experience as a Software Safety Engineer or related role focused on autonomous or safety-critical systems.
• Experience with MIL-STD 882E, JSSSEH, AOP-52 or related software safety standards (e.g., DO-178C, ISO 26262).
• Experience with Software Development Processes such as ASPICE and coding standards (MISRA).
• Experience with managing requirements (Jama, Doors, Polarion) and issue tracking (JIRA).
• Familiar with autonomous vehicles perception, prediction, path planning, and control.

Responsibilities

• Develop hazard analyses and safety assessments for autonomous software (FHA, FMEA, FMECA, FTA).
• Define software architecture and derive safety requirements from analyses.
• Incorporate Model-based Safety concepts across Forterra software solutions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop test cases for safety-critical software.
• Perform and participate in SRR, PDR, CDR, SSSTRP reviews and Level of Rigor audits.
