Job summary

AeroVect Technologies Inc. in South San Francisco seeks a Senior Software Safety Engineer to execute core safety lifecycle tasks across our software and hardware platforms, under the Head of Safety.

You will perform hazard analyses (HARA, FMEA, FTA, STPA), derive SSRs, collaborate with systems, software, robotics, hardware, and test teams, and help build safety case artifacts for deployment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in safety engineering for autonomous vehicles, aerospace, or industrial safety.
• Background with autonomous driving systems or mobile robotics.
• Experience under mentorship in a fast-paced agile team.
• BS or MS in a related discipline.
• 5+ years in software development or SW safety (C++, Python, ROS/ROS2).
• Knowledge of software safety lifecycles, ASIL decomposition, testing strategies.

Responsibilities

• Conduct software hazard and safety analyses on perception, motion planning, localization, and vehicle control modules per ISO 26262-6 and SOTIF (ISO 21448).
• Execute software FMEA/FTA, freedom-from-interference analysis, and code-level hazard evaluations.
• Derive SSRs and define monitoring/fail-safe mechanisms within multi-core and Linux/RTOS environments.
• Review safety-critical C++/Python code and middleware with development teams to ensure safety standards.
• Develop Safety Performance Indicators to measure safety performance over time.
