Job summary

Forterra is seeking a Senior Software Safety Engineer in the United States to join the Core Systems & System Safety team. You will drive safety-critical software assurance for ground-based autonomous systems and advance the Software System Safety Program.

You will perform FHA, FMEA, FMECA, FTA and MBSA analyses, define safety concepts, derive requirements, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to test safety-critical software. Remote with travel possible.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Software, Systems or related Engineering; Master’s preferred.
• 5–10+ years in software safety or system safety for autonomous or safety-critical systems.
• Experience with MIL-STD 882E, JSSSEH, AOP-52 or DO-178C/ISO 26262.
• Experience with ASPICE and coding standards (MISRA).
• Experience managing requirements (Jama/Doors/Polarion) and issue tracking (JIRA).
• Familiar with autonomous vehicle perception, prediction, path planning, and control.
• Strong analytical skills in linear algebra, geometry, and probability.
• Experience analyzing C/C++ software or tools (SCADE/Simulink).
• Experience guiding Unit Testing, SW Integration Testing, and Embedded SW Testing.
• Strong communication across engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Develop safety analyses and ensure safety considerations are integrated from ground up (MIL-STD-882E).
• Define software architecture, safety concepts, and derive requirements from analyses.
• Perform FHA, FMEA, FMECA, FTA, and other hazard analyses.
• Apply Model-based Safety approaches across Forterra software solutions.
• Collaborate on test case development for safety-critical software.
• Participate in SRR, PDR, CDR, and SSSTRP reviews and Level of Rigor audits.
• Communicate safety design decisions across engineering teams.
