Job summary

Forterra is seeking a software engineer to design, develop, and field autonomy software for robotics and automation used in national security applications. You will support real-world missions across a fleet of ground vehicles operated globally.

The ideal candidate has a strong software background in robotics, experience deploying software on hardware, and collaboration across engineers, researchers, and product managers to build robust, scalable systems.

Qualifications

• B.S. in computer science, engineering, robotics, or related field or relevant experience/show of skill.
• Experience in integrating software on hardware products.
• Strong programming skills in C++, Python, or Java.
• Ability to deliver production-quality software in CI environments.
• Strong understanding of algorithms, data structures, and software design principles.

Responsibilities

• Bring autonomy into real operations by deploying the autonomy stack on customer hardware and validating in real world conditions.
• Collaborate with end-users and stakeholders to deliver new behaviors and payload integrations.
• Optimize system performance by considering sensing, compute, controls, and subsystems interactions.
• Analyze test results, identify root causes, and drive issues to resolution with engineering teams.
• Improve the core autonomy stack by identifying shortfalls and implementing enhancements with cross-functional teams.
• Translate customer requirements into autonomy capabilities in partnership with product and R&D teams.
• Travel 10-25% to 50% depending on role and candidate preference; commute to Arlington, VA as needed.
