Job summary

Pilot is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for the Takeoff team, owning backend accounting systems and front-end touchpoints. The role emphasizes end-to-end ownership from design to rollout, collaborating with product, design, and accounting experts to deliver safe, well-tested changes.

The backend is Python-based with Vue.js on the frontend. We deploy on AWS, use Terraform for infra, and rely on Postgres and modern observability. Remote in the US across select states.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a software engineer.
• Production experience with Python or Vue in a web stack.
• Strong testing and maintainable codebase practices.
• Good product and systems judgment in evolving domains.
• Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration.
• Experience working on a remote team with async communication.
• Demonstrated mentorship of teammates.
• Remote in the United States in CA, GA, NY, NC, TN, TX, or WA.

Responsibilities

• Build, test, and deploy software in a continuous manner (daily or more).
• Collaborate with PMs, designers, and accounting experts on product reviews.
• Create and contribute to technical specs and rollout plans.
• Write clear technical designs and conduct code reviews to maintain standards.
• Work with stakeholders to ensure problems are solved effectively.
• Mentor teammates and help them grow.
• Investigate production issues and improve system reliability.
