Job summary

Pilot is hiring a Staff Software Engineer for the Takeoff team, building core accounting systems and revenue recognition for Pilot’s platform.

The role focuses on setting technical direction across teams, solving large, ambiguous problems, and shipping high-quality software with quick feedback loops.

Remote-only within the United States (CA, GA, NY, NC, TN, TX, WA). Competitive compensation with equity and full benefits.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience as a software engineer.
• Experience with Python in production.
• Track record of leading complex, multi-team technical projects to successful outcomes.
• Ability to set technical direction and gain buy-in across teams.
• Strong coding fundamentals and well-tested code.
• Good product and systems judgment in ambiguous spaces.
• Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration.
• Experience working effectively on a remote team with asynchronous communication.
• Demonstrated mentoring of engineers.

Responsibilities

• Lead projects with high ambiguity from definition to delivery.
• Set technical strategy and architectural decisions for cross-team systems.
• Identify gaps and drive strategy to address them.
• Build, test, and deploy software with daily or more frequent releases.
• Create and review technical specs and maintain high quality standards.
• Collaborate with PMs, designers, and stakeholders to solve the right problems.
• Mentor and sponsor engineers across the organization.
• Investigate production issues and improve system reliability.
