Johnson & Johnson’s Orthopaedics team seeks a Senior Principal Engineer – R&D Digital to guide technical direction and system‑level design for robotic-enabled joint solutions. This remote position prefers proximity to Boston, MA.

The role bridges engineering and cross‑functional stakeholders, owning architecture decisions, mentoring staff, and collaborating with quality, regulatory, and suppliers to support clinical and commercial readiness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Biomedical, Mechatronics, Electrical, Robotics or related)
• Familiarity with medical device design controls, verification and validation, and regulatory standards (FDA 510(k)/PMA, ISO 13485, ISO 14971, IEC 60601)

Responsibilities

• Defines system architecture, scope, and core engineering decisions for multi-disciplinary robotics projects
• Leads technical project execution, removes roadblocks, and promotes engineering best practices
• Bridges business goals with technical requirements across commercial, quality, regulatory, supply chain, and service care
• Communicates project status and key technical decisions to leadership
• Leads VoC activities and supports product launches with cross-functional teams
• Supports DFx/DFM activities and coordinates with suppliers and contract manufacturers
• Oversees verification and validation planning and execution with Quality and Test teams
• Mentors engineering staff and fosters a collaborative design-control culture
• Supports regulatory submissions and clinical evaluation activities
