Job summary

UVA Health is seeking an experienced outpatient medical coder (CPC) to join a specialized team supporting multiple ambulatory specialties. The role emphasizes accuracy, regulatory compliance, and collaboration with providers and revenue cycle teams.

You will review complex documentation, assign CPT/ICD-10-CM/E/M codes, and stay current with evolving coding guidance across Allergy, Endocrinology, Hematology/Oncology, Internal Medicine, and other services. Remote work option is available.

Qualifications

• Credentialed outpatient coder with CPC certification and 3+ years experience.
• Proficient in CPT, ICD-10-CM, modifiers, and E/M services.
• Knowledge of medical necessity, NCCI edits, LCD/NCD guidance, and payer-specific requirements.

Responsibilities

• Review complex outpatient documentation and assign CPT, ICD-10-CM, modifiers, and E/M services.
• Analyze documentation to link diagnoses to procedures.
• Identify documentation gaps and escalate for provider clarification when needed.
• Conduct charge review and support coding quality and compliance initiatives.
• Use Epic, work queues, and review workflows to manage coding assignments.
