Job summary

Cortex Consultants LLC is seeking a Medical Coder for remote work in the USA. You will assign ICD-10 CM/PCS, CPT, HCPCS codes and modifiers based on documentation across multiple specialties. You will adhere to HIPAA, meet SLA targets, and participate in audits and training.

Applicants should have 3+ years of medical coding experience, AHIMA or AAPC certification, and ICD-10 proficiency. Strong accuracy and ability to work securely in a private space are required.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience with medical coding, re-coding, abstraction, analysis, and assembly of medical record data (≤140 chars)
• Active coding certification from AHIMA or AAPC (CCS/CCS-P/CPC/RHIA/RHIT) required
• Must be ICD-10 certified
• Initial and annual proof of active certification is required
• Demonstrated ability to maintain minimum accuracy rating of 97%
• Experience with multiple specialties including Behavioral Health, Cardiology, ER, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Hematology/Oncology, Infectious disease, Internal medicine, Nephrology, Neurology, OB/Gyn, Ophthalmology, Orthopedic, Outpatient, Pulmonology, Rheumatology, Sleep medicine, Transplant, Vascular

Responsibilities

• Accurately assign ICD-10 CM, E/M, ICD-10 PCS, CPT, HCPCS, modifiers and units based on documentation.
• Adhere to multi-specialty coding standards across Outpatient, ER, Surgery, Inpatient facilities and others.
• Process encounters within SLA with deficiencies escalated as needed.
• Review audits within set time window and implement corrections after adjudication.
• Complete training on government systems and annual trainings.
• Meet or exceed weekly productivity and quality targets.
• Coordinate with team and follow directions from Site/Project Manager.
