Job summary

Obsidian is seeking experienced mechanical engineers to join a leading AI lab's GenAI team, working on advancing frontier AI models through real-world mechanical design and analysis.

You will review engineering tasks, write instruction specs and reference solutions, and help build evaluation benchmarks across design, thermal/fluid, and structures. 5+ years of hands-on industry experience and excellent written communication are required for a 2–3 month, remote engagement with possible extension.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years hands-on mechanical engineering experience in industry (design, thermal/fluid, structural, manufacturing, etc).
• Ownership of real engineering work: designs, analyses, or released drawings.

Responsibilities

• Review quality of mechanical engineering tasks and model outputs.
• Write instruction specs and reference solutions for problems.
• Design challenging tasks and evaluation sets across mechanical domains (design, thermal/fluid, structures, manufacturing, controls).
• Calibrate standards with client researchers to maintain consistency.
