Job summary

First National Bank of Omaha is seeking a Senior Mainframe Engineer to lead our z/OS modernization efforts within a managed services framework. You will drive standardized upgrade processes, mentor engineers, and ensure reliable delivery across client environments.

Remote work from anywhere in the U.S. is supported; travel may be required occasionally. This role demands a deep, hands-on leadership style and a track record of modernizing mainframe environments for scalability and efficiency.

Qualifications

Proven experience in z/OS upgrades and mass maintenance deployment.
In-depth knowledge of z/OS components and related tools (JES2, HCD/IODF, SMP/E, WLM, etc.).
Strong leadership and mentoring skills for technical teams.

Responsibilities

Serve as technical leader for z/OS upgrade optimization and standardization.
Design and implement standardized approaches for z/OS upgrades and mass maintenance.
Lead efforts to optimize system performance and reduce operational complexity.
Oversee installation, configuration, and maintenance of IBM and ISV software products.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan OS upgrades with minimal business impact.
Develop technical documentation and templates for OS rollouts.
Drive adoption of new technologies and automation frameworks.
Act as SME for mainframe projects and provide technical direction.
Provide advanced troubleshooting for escalated incidents beyond Level 1.
Participate in after-hours and weekend support as required.
