Job summary

The Wikimedia Foundation seeks a Lead Learning Experience Designer to create innovative, accessible learning experiences that strengthen volunteer capacity across the Wikimedia movement. You will partner with Foundation teams, affiliates, researchers, and volunteers to understand learner needs and develop experiences for different stages of the journey.

• Experience designing digital learning experiences for diverse, global audiences.
• Experience creating engaging e-learning and blended learning solutions.
• Experience using an LMS to develop, organize, and publish content.
• Ability to diagnose capability gaps and rapidly design and improve learning.
• Excellent written communication and content development skills for diverse audiences.
• Experience collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders and subject matter experts.
• Commitment to accessibility, inclusive design, and culturally responsive learning.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop digital learning experiences and performance support for Wikimedia contributors.
• Partner with product teams, researchers, and SMEs to identify learning needs and participation challenges.
• Determine learning approaches for opportunities (self-paced courses, videos, interactive experiences, AI-enabled support, workshops).
• Develop content that helps contributors understand tools, workflows, policies, and governance across Wikimedia projects.
• Prototype, test, and iterate with modern authoring tools, multimedia, and AI.
• Apply learning science and user-centered design to create engaging, inclusive solutions.
• Evaluate learning effectiveness using feedback and data, and improve content accordingly.
• Stay current with learning tech and strategies to expand Wikimedia learning offerings.
• Ensure resources reflect Wikimedia values of openness, collaboration, equity, and knowledge sharing.
