Job summary

Affirm is pursuing a leadership-centric data platform role focused on building and operating a Lakehouse Platform using Apache Iceberg, Spark, and Snowflake. You will drive architectural decisions, guide engineers, and ensure secure, scalable data infrastructure for analytics and ML workflows.

The role emphasizes governance, cost optimization, and collaboration across Infra, Analytics, BI, and ML teams in a remote-first setup across the U.S.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in software engineering, data infrastructure, or data platform engineering.
• 2+ years in technical leadership responsibilities.
• Hands-on experience with Snowflake or comparable analytical data warehouses.
• Strong experience with Apache Iceberg, Spark, and cloud-native data lake architectures.
• Experience with dbt or equivalent transformation frameworks, including CI/CD.
• Proficiency in Python, SQL, or JVM-based languages.
• Familiarity with Terraform or similar automation tools.

Responsibilities

• Influence technical strategy and long‑term roadmap for Affirms Lakehouse Platform across Iceberg, Spark, Snowflake, and cloud storage.
• Design and develop platform capabilities for secure, discoverable, and usable analytics data across teams.
• Strengthen governance and access controls including RBAC, data masking, lineage, and privacy policy enforcement.
• Improve analytics engineering foundations via data modeling, pipelines, testing, and documentation standards.
• Operate at scale with schema evolution, partitioning, and cost-aware maintenance and observability.
