Job summary

Affirm is hiring a senior data platform engineer to shape and operate its Lakehouse Platform using Iceberg, Spark, and Snowflake. You will own architecture, governance, and scalable data infrastructure across analytics and ML workloads, while leading and mentoring engineers.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize cost, performance, and data quality, ensuring secure and compliant data access across the organization.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in software engineering, data infrastructure, or data platform engineering with 2+ years in technical leadership.
• Hands-on leadership building data infrastructure and leading cross-functional teams.
• Snowflake or comparable analytical data warehouses with RBAC, data masking, cost management, and performance tuning.
• Experience with Iceberg, Spark, and cloud-native lakehouse architectures.
• Proficiency with dbt or similar transformation frameworks and data modeling best practices.
• Programming in Python, SQL, or JVM-based languages with production-quality systems.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive long-term technical roadmap for Affirms Lakehouse Platform across Iceberg, Spark, Snowflake, and cloud storage.
• Architect and implement platform capabilities for secure, discoverable data usable by engineering, analytics, ML, and BI.
• Strengthen data governance with access controls, lineage, and privacy policy enforcement.
• Collaborate with Analytics and Infrastructure teams to evolve data modeling and ETL/ELT pipelines.
• Operate at scale with schema evolution, partitioning, and cost optimization.
• Mentor engineers and promote design rigor and operational excellence.
