Cloudera is seeking a Mid-Senior IT Hardware Engineer to own on-premise compute and storage lifecycles, and to design reference builds for workloads like CI, virtualization, and big data. Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or 8+ years of equivalent enterprise experience.
- Extensive experience with Dell PowerEdge servers and management tools (iDRAC, Lifecycle Controller, OpenManage, racadm).
- Hands-on with Dell PowerStore and Pure Storage FlashArray; storage architectures and protocols.
- Strong Linux administration (Red Hat/Ubuntu/Rocky) with performance diagnostics.
- Scripting in Python and shell; automation and API integration (Redfish).
- Experience with on-prem virtualization and bare-metal platforms (VMware, KVM, OpenStack).
- Familiar with IaC (Terraform, Ansible) and bare-metal provisioning (Foreman, MaaS, PXE).
- Security-focused design including firmware/BMC hardening and secure supply chains.
Responsibilities
- Consult with engineering teams to translate workload requirements into hardware specs.
- Design and maintain reference hardware configurations for common workloads.
- Lead liaison with Dell and OEM vendors for configurations, quotes, and BOMs.
- Manage lifecycle of on-premise compute and storage hardware (capacity, procurement, deployment, decommission).
- Design and administer Dell PowerStore and Pure Storage arrays for high availability and data protection.
- Integrate hardware into bare-metal provisioning and IaC workflows for automated deployment.
- Automate hardware management, health monitoring, and fleet inventory via out-of-band tools and APIs.
- Implement firmware and security best practices (Secure Boot, TPM, BMC hardening).
- Lead troubleshooting with OEM support and perform root-cause analysis.
- Serve as SME across IT Systems, CloudOps, Security, and Engineering teams.
- Participate in on-call rotation and maintain documentation and runbooks.
- Identify improvements in hardware performance and operations through automation.
