Job summary

GovCIO is seeking a Data Engineer and Architect to support healthcare data integration for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The role requires strong database design and SQL skills, with experience in Millennium, VistA, and CDW data ingestion. This is a fully remote US position.

You will design data models, create metadata, and ensure governance and security standards while collaborating with SMEs, DBAs, and ETL teams to ensure scalable enterprise data integration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field with 14+ years of experience; or a Master's with 10+ years.
• Expertise with healthcare data domains and Millennium; PHI/PII handling.
• Strong SQL Server, T-SQL, SSIS/SSAS, and data modeling skills.
• Experience with CDW standards, data governance, and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Analyze source systems (VistA, Millennium, ADR, MVI, Geospatial) to define data structures and rules.
• Design and maintain database objects for CDW data ingestion.
• Develop data models (conceptual/logical/physical) for enterprise integration.
• Map source-to-target data, document transformations and governance evidence.
• Collaborate with SMEs, DBAs, ETL developers, and source extraction teams.
• Create and deploy MDR metadata and Data Domain Design Documents.
• Ensure CDW standards, governance, security, and enterprise guidelines compliance.
• Investigate data quality issues and support root-cause analysis with teams.
