Job summary

Norstella is seeking a Senior Forge AI Engineer to design and build an autonomous agentic platform, Forge, spanning orchestration, memory, and tool-use across multiple agents. You will tackle memory across multi-step runs, trust boundaries, and scalable safety primitives in production.

You will own MCP server design, RAG pipelines, and evaluation harnesses, delivering end-to-end agent reliability in a regulated life sciences context.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software engineering with 2+ years building and operating LLM-powered or agentic systems in production.
• Experience with at least one agentic framework (LangGraph, CrewAI, Autogen, Semantic Kernel, MCP, or comparable) and understanding trade-offs.
• Hands-on experience authoring MCP servers or designing tool-use APIs with explicit capability contracts and versioning.
• Experience with agent memory architectures — context management and long-term memory stores.
• Strong Python and/or TypeScript fundamentals and production-grade agent code ownership.
• Proficiency in prompt engineering, tool/function calling, and multi-step orchestration.
• Knowledge of RAG patterns, vector databases, and LLM evaluation for production outputs.

Responsibilities

• Design and build agents across the Forge chain — orchestration, tool-use surfaces, MCP server integrations, prompt and RAG pipelines.
• Own multi-agent coordination architecture: trust boundaries, contracts, partial failure handling, and recovery.
• Build and evolve the MCP server layer with tool schemas and versioning for safe extension.
• Design agent memory and state management across multi-step workflows.
• Own agent quality end-to-end: eval harnesses, benchmarks, continuous evaluation pipelines.
• Instrument agent observability and cost attribution for debuggability and defensibility.
• Build safe-by-design primitives: least-privilege tool-use and PII/PHI handling.
