Job summary

Norstella is seeking a Senior Forge AI Engineer to design and build across the Forge chain, enabling autonomous agent workflows in production. You will tackle inter-agent coordination, MCP server design, memory management, and safe-by-design tooling in a cutting-edge environment.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software engineering experience with 2+ years in production-grade LLM-powered/agentic systems.
• Production experience with at least one agentic framework (LangGraph, CrewAI, Autogen, Semantic Kernel, MCP).
• Hands-on experience authoring MCP servers or designing tool-use APIs with explicit contracts and versioning.
• Experience with agent memory architectures — context mgmt, long-term memory, state persistence across multi-step workflows.
• Strong fundamentals in Python and/or TypeScript; able to own production agent code.
• Proficiency in prompt engineering, tool/call usage, and multi-step orchestration.
• Knowledge of RAG patterns, vector databases, and LLM evaluation methodologies.
• AI safety engineering knowledge: OWASP LLM Top 10, prompt injection defenses, RAG hardening, adversarial testing.

Responsibilities

• Design and build agents across the Forge chain — orchestration, tool-use surfaces, MCP server integrations, prompt and RAG pipelines.
• Own multi-agent coordination architecture: inter-agent trust, message contracts, failure handling, recovery.
• Develop and evolve the MCP server layer — tool schema, contracts, versioning for safe extension.
• Design agent memory and state management: context window strategy, memory stores, state persistence across workflows.
• Own agent quality end-to-end: eval harnesses, benchmarks, continuous evaluation pipelines, gate criteria for releases.
• Instrument observability: token tracing, tool-call chain logging, cost attribution per run.
• Build safe-by-design primitives: least-privilege tool-use, PII/PHI handling, output validation, security partnerships.
