Job summary

Capital One is seeking a Senior Director of AI Engineering for the Agentic AI Platform. Lead cross-functional teams to deliver AI-powered products, oversee foundation model training and inference, and drive enterprise-wide AI strategy with a focus on responsible AI and scalable infrastructure.

You will build and mentor a high-performing team, align product, research, risk, and data for shared principles, and define multi-year roadmaps for reliable AI systems. Remote eligible with hybrid options.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical or Computer Engineering or related field with 10+ years AI/ML experience or Master’s with 8+ years.
• Minimum 5 years of people leadership experience.
• Experience deploying scalable and responsible AI on cloud platforms.

Responsibilities

• Lead cross-functional teams to deliver AI-powered products improving associate and customer interactions.
• Oversee AI software components: foundation model training, inference, similarity search, guardrails, governance, observability.
• Make build-vs-buy decisions across OSS and SaaS AI tech (AWS Ultraclusters, HuggingFace, VectorDBs, PyTorch).
• Invent optimization techniques for scalable, cost-efficient production AI systems.
• Contribute to long-term AI system roadmap and enterprise AI strategy.
• Mentor and develop team talent; promote responsible AI practices.
