Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a Senior Database Administrator for a fully remote role serving the Veterans Affairs department. Requires 8+ years of database experience, Oracle and SQL Server expertise, and a Public Trust (MBI) clearance. U.S.

citizenship is required. Salary range opens at $76,217 to $81,000 with W-2 employment and national remote eligibility. Candidate will lead DB design, performance tuning, backup/recovery, security, and DR planning while collaborating with IT staff.

Qualifications

• Proven expertise managing and maintaining Oracle databases and SQL Server.
• Experience in database design and architecture.
• Proven experience in performance tuning, backup/recovery, and security management.
• Proficiency deploying, managing, and configuring SQL Server and Oracle databases.
• Experience with database monitoring and maintenance tools.
• Knowledge of features like automated backups, snapshots, scaling, and read replicas.
• Strong knowledge of Oracle/SQL Server architecture, management, and optimization.
• Proficiency writing/optimizing complex SQL, stored procedures, and triggers.
• Experience with backup, recovery planning, and disaster recovery strategies.
• Proficiency in database architecture, administration, and performance tuning.
• PL/SQL programming and Oracle optimization expertise.
• Experience with query optimization and indexing for SQL Server/Oracle.
• Use of performance monitoring tools to diagnose issues.
• Understanding recovery techniques including point-in-time recovery.
• Experience implementing automated backup solutions.
• Knowledge of database security best practices for SQL Server and Oracle.
• Experience with user authentication, authorization, encryption, and masking.
• Strong analytical and communication skills to explain tech concepts.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and upgrade DBMS.
• Create and manage database objects (tables, indexes, views, procedures).
• Monitor and maintain database objects and performance.
• Conduct tuning and optimization for queries and indexes.
• Develop backup and recovery strategies and drills.
• Implement and enforce database security policies and access controls.
• Collaborate with developers and admins to resolve DB problems.
• Maintain documentation of configurations, procedures, and processes.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices.
• Stay updated on database technologies and cloud services.
