Job summary

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is actively seeking an experienced Senior Database Administrator to support the Veterans Affairs (VA) department. The role is 100% remote with U.S. citizenship and a Public Trust (MBI) clearance path.

You will manage Oracle and SQL Server databases, optimize performance, implement backup/recovery, and enforce security policies. The ideal candidate has 8+ years in database administration, strong PL/SQL skills, and experience with EDIFECS or similar tools.

Qualifications

• Proven expertise managing and maintaining Oracle and SQL Server databases.
• Experience with database design and architecture.
• Proven experience in performance tuning, backup/recovery, and security management.
• Experience with automated backups, snapshots, and read replicas.
• Strong knowledge of PL/SQL and related optimization techniques.
• Experience with HIPAA-compliant cloud data architecture is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and upgrade DBMSs to support enterprise apps.
• Create and manage database objects: tables, indexes, views, stored procedures.
• Monitor and maintain performance, tuning, and health of DB systems.
• Develop backup and recovery strategies and perform drills.
• Enforce DB security policies and manage user access/permissions.
• Collaborate with developers and IT staff to troubleshoot DB issues.
• Maintain documentation for configurations, procedures, and guidelines.
• Stay current with database technologies and cloud services.
