Job summary

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a Senior Database Administrator for a fully remote role supporting the Veterans Affairs (VA) department. The position requires experience with Oracle and SQL Server databases, performance tuning, backup/recovery, and strong security practices.

A Public Trust (MBI) clearance is required. 8+ years in database administration, bachelor's degree in CS/IT, and US citizenship are needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required or equivalent experience in Computer Science/IT.
• 8+ years of professional database administration experience.
• Experience with Oracle and SQL Server databases.
• Strong background in backup, recovery, and disaster planning.
• Familiarity with HIPAA or healthcare data security practices is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and upgrade DBMSs.
• Create and manage database objects (tables, indexes, views, SPs).
• Monitor, tune, and optimize database performance.
• Develop and implement backup/recovery strategies and drills.
• Enforce database security policies and manage user access.
• Collaborate with developers and IT staff to resolve issues.
