Job summary

RegEd is seeking a Senior Database Administrator to maintain and improve our database systems, design new solutions, and respond to incidents with a focus on performance and reliability. The role involves working with on‑premises and cloud databases, including Azure, SQL Server, and large-scale data stores across teams.

You will collaborate with Architecture, QA, Development, and Infrastructure to implement standards and ensure security, data governance, and efficient operations.

Qualifications

• 7+ years database analysis, programming or similar experience.
• Minimum 4 years’ experience as a Senior Database Developer or equivalent.
• Extensive hands-on experience in SQL 2016 and higher.
• Hands on experience with cloud-based database systems in Azure using Managed Instance, Azure SQL Hyperscale, Azure SQL DB, and VMs.
• Extensive experience dealing with multiple large (2+ TB) databases.
• Experience writing complex database procedures, functions and triggers.
• Understanding of execution plans, system views, and dynamic SQL.
• Strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles and practices.
• Proven strong innovate and analytical ability with extensive implementation skills.
• Proven success in performance optimization for OLTP and OLAP applications.
• Experience with SQL Server HADR technologies, including Always On Availability Groups, log shipping, and backup/recovery strategies.
• Experience with database monitoring platforms and dashboard tools such as SSMS, Grafana, PowerBI, or other third-party tools.
• Proficiency in PowerShell for script automation, tooling, and operational workflows.
• Experience with Git or other version-control change management processes.

Responsibilities

• Design, create, and maintain database objects in on premise and cloud databases.
• Recommend database approaches and design to architecture and application staff.
• Drive innovation and improvement through newer data technologies.
• Establish coding standards for stored procedures, triggers, and schema design.
• Review and approve complex structural changes to the database.
• Optimize queries and development of efficient SQL code.
• Lead investigation and resolution of database incidents including blocking and deadlocks.
• Build and maintain database monitoring infrastructure for alerts and dashboards.
• Support database security and compliance using encryption and masking tools.
• Advise on data retention, tiering, and archive strategies for high-volume databases.
• Coordinate with Architecture, QA, Application Development, and Infrastructure teams.
• Manage multiple projects with self-direction and time allocation.
